These terms govern your use of the Pelekanos mobile application and related services (“Pelekanos”, “we”, “us”). Pelekanos connects volunteers with non-governmental organisations (“NGOs”) and their volunteering events across Greece. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms.
Questions: hello@pelekanos.org. How we handle your personal data is described in our Privacy Policy.
1. What Pelekanos is (and isn’t)
Pelekanos is a platform: it helps volunteers discover NGOs and their events, register to participate, and share reviews. The events themselves are organised and run by the NGOs, not by us. We are not a party to the relationship between you and any NGO, and volunteering through Pelekanos does not create an employment, agency, or partnership relationship with us or with an NGO.
2. Who can use it
- You must be at least 15 years old to create an account.
- If you use Pelekanos on behalf of an NGO, you confirm you are authorised to represent that organisation, and these terms bind both you and the organisation.
3. Your account
- Provide accurate information and keep it up to date.
- Keep your sign-in credentials secure — you are responsible for activity on your account.
- You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile → Delete account).
4. Event registrations
When you register for an event, the organising NGO receives the details needed to manage participation (see the Privacy Policy). Registering is a commitment to the NGO, not to us — if you can no longer attend, please cancel your registration in the app so your spot can go to someone else. NGOs may accept, decline, or cancel registrations and events at their discretion.
5. Responsibilities of NGOs
NGOs using Pelekanos agree to:
- publish accurate, lawful event information and keep it updated;
- only request volunteer details (including any sensitive details such as medical information) that are genuinely needed for the specific event;
- handle the volunteer data they receive lawfully and responsibly — each NGO acts as an independent data controller for that data;
- run their events in compliance with applicable law, including health, safety, and insurance requirements.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- post content that is unlawful, misleading, defamatory, discriminatory, or harassing;
- create fake accounts, fake events, or fake reviews;
- use the platform for commercial recruitment, advertising, or spam unrelated to volunteering;
- attempt to access other users’ data, disrupt the service, or scrape it with automated tools;
- upload photos of people without their permission, or content you don’t have the right to share.
7. Content you share
You keep ownership of the content you post (reviews, photos, profile information). By posting it, you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host and display it within Pelekanos so the service can work. You are responsible for what you post. We may remove content or restrict accounts that violate these terms, and we may suspend or terminate accounts for serious or repeated violations.
8. Reviews
Reviews must reflect your genuine experience at an event you attended. NGOs may not offer incentives for positive reviews. We may remove reviews that violate these terms.
9. Safety
The organising NGO is responsible for the safety and conduct of its events. Assess your own fitness for an activity before registering, follow the NGO’s instructions on site, and share any information the NGO reasonably requires for your safety. Participation in events is voluntary and at your own judgement.
10. Our intellectual property
The Pelekanos app, name, logo, and design are ours (or our licensors’). These terms don’t give you any right to use them outside of normal use of the app.
11. Service availability and changes
Pelekanos is provided free of charge, “as is” and “as available”. We work hard to keep it reliable, but we don’t guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation, and we may change, suspend, or discontinue features. We are not responsible for the accuracy of event information published by NGOs.
12. Liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for damages arising from your participation in NGO events, from interactions between volunteers and NGOs, or from content posted by users. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (including liability for wilful misconduct or gross negligence).
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the app. Continuing to use Pelekanos after a change means you accept the updated terms.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by Greek law. Disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Greece. If you are a consumer in the EU, you also keep any rights granted by the mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence, and you may use the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform.
